The Future of Fashion: 2013 FIT Senior Fashion Show

There is nothing like seeing your hard work on public display for the masses to appreciate. Especially if it’s your life’s work, your dream, your passion, etc. Believe me, I know firsthand. So, I went to the 2013 Fashion Institute of Technology Senior Fashion Show with hopes that I’d be able to get a glimpse into the “Future of Fashion” –as the show was appropriately titled. Little did I know,

Ring the Alarm: Spring-A-Ding-Ding

It finally (finally!) feels like Spring. And so I rung the alarm at the Spring-A-Ding-Ding What to Wear Fashion Show in Dallas. Hosted by DFW Style Daily, the show featured upcoming spring trends to look out for this season, from the Loft, Gap, and other favorite street style spots. But it wasn’t only the looks on the runway that were worth mentioning. Street Style has no boundaries…not even in the

An Eye for the Runway

So, remember my past (and current) obsession with fashion illustration? I passed it on to my handsome Broadcast boyfrraann (among other nicknames) and introduced him to Claire Thompson. I had the pleasure of meeting Claire at Day 2 of Brooklyn Fashion Week{end} a few weeks ago. We sat together at the end of the runway, and I was able to watch her in her element. I was amazed at how

What to Wear for Lent: The #SixItemsChallenge

(originally a byline on Cosmo for Latinas) If you haven’t given up something for Lent yet, here’s a challenge: The “Six-Items Challenge,” where fashionistas everywhere are wearing only SIX items of clothing for the six weeks of Lent, with unlimited access to underwear, accessories and footwear (naturally, lol). This is all to oppose the idea of “fast fashion,” labels putting their workers through incessant labor to increase production. I will

Brooklyn Fashion Week{end} F/W 2013: Day 4

Aesthetics are a funny thing. On the last day of this season of Brooklyn Fashion Weekend, I got lost in the art of the lips…literally. In my best Kendrick Lamar voice: “This is the finale…” ### As always, like, share, and comment! And thanks so much for joining me on the BKFW ride! I’ll give my eye some credit that it picked up on some pretty amazing things I enjoyed

Brooklyn Fashion Week{end} F/W 2013: Day 3

Brooklyn Fashion Weekend stepped it up a notch for the Saturday night showcase. My eye was a little overwhelmed with options. I had to choose wisely. That said, though fashion shows are mainly about the clothes, it is a little known fact that hair and makeup make or break the look. So, I got in everyone’s face this go-round…and for good reason.  ### As always, like, share, and comment! The weekend fun

Brooklyn Fashion Week{end} F/W 2013: Day 2

So I know I told you on Day 1 to “follow along as I show you what caught my eye…and hopefully you’ll see why.” Well, Day 2 of Brooklyn Fashion Weekend was definitely eye-candy FULL. The looks adorning the runway ranged from men in skirts to women in barely-there swimwear. Oh, and there was a snake. Actually, there were two.   ### As always, like, share, and comment! Stay tuned

Brooklyn Fashion Week{end} F/W 2013: Day 1

Another season of Brooklyn Fashion Week{end} is underway, this time with the theme “Honor the master, celebrate the new.” Last year, BDWP was there to document the model casting call before the actual shows began. This season, I thought to give you a daily recap of the actual show, from my vantage point. Follow along as I show you what caught my eye…and hopefully you’ll see why.    ### As

Because One New Dress is Never Enough

If it’s one thing every girl needs in her life, it’s a new dress. If you’re seamstress sensation Jamie Lau of BurdaStyle, you need four new dresses—one for every promo event of your new book “BurdaStyle Sewing Vintage Modern: Mastering Iconic Looks from the 1920s to 1980s.” For the NYC book launch at 3rd Ward in Brooklyn, Lau kept it simple w/ a hand-tailored fit-and-flare blue dress, though the fabric choice

A New Generation of Knitters

Yarn in every color bursts from the walls of the La Casita Yarn Shop Café. Its shelves are lined with jars of buttons and packets of knitting cables. Sitting around a table at the front of the shop are a number of twenty-somethings, sipping wine and knitting Christmas gifts. “A lot of the young people in this area are creative people, so they use their hands,” said Jennifer Lopez, co-owner
